Uganda Martyrs' Shrine, Namugongo
Pope John Paul II at Namugongo on 7 February 1993
"This is the place where Christ's light shone on your land with a particular splendour. This was the place of darkness, Namugongo, where Christ's light shone bright in the great fire which consumed Saint Charles Lwanga and his companions. May the light of that holocaust never cease to shine in Africa!."
Pope John Paul
Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, in the Kampala Archdiocese Strategic Pastoral Plan,2007.
Archbishop Lwanga "The Martyrs of Uganda gave a lasting example in witnessing to Christ which made the ultimate sacrifice to plant the seed of faith through Grassroot Evangelization in their respective communities. They are in heaven and intercede for us. Let us promote their devotion and promote the great Grassroot Evangelization that they undertook with great faith, zeal and commitment. With the prayers and the support of the Uganda Martyrs we shall face the challenges of the future with confidence."
