||On Mission Sunday 18th October, 1964 -
the 22 Uganda Martyrs were canonized Saints by Pope Paul VI at St.
Peter's Basilica in Rome. At home, this was commemorated by a pilgrimage
and celebration of Holy Mass at Namugongo. His Eminence Gregorio Pietro
Cardinal Agagianian presided over the ceremony.
||His Holiness Pope Paul VI visited Uganda
on 31st July, 1969, the very first Papal visit to the African Continent
as a whole, and made a pilgrimage to Namugongo on 2nd August, 1969.
|3rd June 1975
||On 3rd June during the Holy
Year of 1975 Cardinal Sergio Pignedoli blessed and
opened the Uganda Martyrs' National Shrine at Namugongo.
||The celebrations marking the Centenary of
the introduction of the Catholic Faith in Uganda had gone on since the
beginning of 1979 and the occasion of the climax celebrations was at
Namugongo on 3rd June, 1979. His Eminence James Robert Cardinal Knox
officiated at the ceremony

||His Lordship The Rt. Rev. Paul Kalanda,
Bishop of Moroto was consecrated by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal K.
Nsubuga on 22nd March, 1981

||His Lordship The Rt. Rev. Matthias
Ssekamaanya, Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala was consecrated by His Eminence
Emmanuel Cardinal K. Nsubuga on 2nd June, 1985.
||This year marked the centenary of the
death of the 22 Uganda Martyrs. A Papal Legate in the person of His
Eminence Jozef Cardinal Tomko presided over this climax celebrations at
Namugongo on 3rd June, 1986.
||The Uganda Martyrs' Centenary Year
which had been opened on 15th November, 1985 was officially closed on
27th January, 1987 martyrdom day of St. Jean Marie Muzeeyi. His Eminence
Laurean Cardinal Rugambwa presided over this ceremony
||On Mission Sunday 22nd October, 1989 - the
nearest Sunday to 18th October celebrations of the Silver Jubilee of the
Canonization of the Uganda Martyrs as Saints (18.10.1964 - 18.10.1989).
||The Blessing and Official Opening of the
New Fathers - Pilgrims House and the Uganda Martyrs' Centenary Memorial
Dispensary at Namugongo - 26th February, 1989
||His Holiness Pope John Paul II visited Uganda and spent 6 days in the country, that is from March 5 to 10.
On March 7 he visited the Uganda Martyrs' Shrine Namugongo and elevated it (the Shrine) to the rank of a Minor Basilica.
||The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences of Eastern Africa made a pilgrimage to Namugongo
on 3rd June during the AMECEA conference held in Kampala.
