Namugongo to Celebrate its Platinum Jubilee on March 2, 2014
Namugongo Parish will on March 2, 2014 celebrate 75 years since its foundation by the Mill Hill Missionaries.
Uganda Martyrs Shrine Parish Namugongo will in March 2010 make 75 years since its inception.\r\nThe Parish, which was founded by the Mill Hill Missionaries got its first Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Rooyen in March 1935 and was dedicated to Mother Mary; Queen of the Martyrs.\r\nThe Platinum Celebrations under the theme; "United we grow in Faith like the Uganda Martyrs" will be held on March 2, 2014 and will be presided over by His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, Archbishop of Kampala.\r\nA committee headed by the Parish Priest, Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Kimbowa and Parish Finance Minister, Mr. John Matovu is doing its best to have the function colourful.\r\nTo commemorate the 75 years, the organising committee has embarked on constructing a Nursery School as the Platinum Project and it is estimated to cost over Ush200m.\r\nNamugongo Shrine Parish started as a small Sub-Parish of Nsambya with its grass thatched Church at Kyaliwajjala where current Vienna Academy stands. Later young Dutch Mill Hill Father, Watters bought 8 acres of land where Shrine stands and this marked the beginning of advocating for a Parish at the spot where St. Charles Lwanga gave up his life for Christ.\r\n
