ST. CHARLES LWANGA
He was a Muganda, born in 1861 at Birinzi in Buddu County. He was the head of Kabaka Mwanga’s pages working in the court of great audience hall and a great wrestler yet with exceptional leadership skills.
He was baptized on the 15th of November 1885 by Fr. Girault and during the Christian persecution, Charles displayed unshakable faith and exceptional Christian bravery at whom the Christian martyrdom was centered.
To punish him, Ssenkoole, the assistant chief executioner separated him from the other Christians and was burnt in a slow fire from feet to the head, on Thursday, 3rd of June 1886 at Namugongo Busaale towards noon.
His martyrdom site is the spot where the altar of the Uganda Martyrs Shrine currently stands. Charles died at the age of 25
